Remote Learning

Here you will find resources that are suitable for remote learning or for use by teachers with other specialisms who may have to cover RE lessons.

Primary

RE:ONLINE

There are schemes of learning and ‘starter’ activities on RE:ONLINE that you can use to support home learning plans for primary pupils. We are also aware of some teachers who are supporting other parents with home learning and they may want to share these ideas.

Here are some examples:

Foundation Stage: Signs and Symbols  The internet could be used to find pictures, and symbols around the home might be used.

Key Stage One: Tzedekah This is based around a picture with an online link so could be used more easily at home.

Key Stage Two: Hajj  This is a powerpoint that could be viewed by pupils at home about Hajj.

True Tube

True Tube is an amazing resource for teachers of RW, PSHE and Citizenship. Search by Key Stage (use the drop-down menu ‘age ranges’) or for ‘subjects’, ‘topics’ or ‘types of resources’.

Key stage 1

Why not invite pupils to watch the Charlie and Blue film collection? There are teacher notes to go with them.

All Charlie and Blue videos can also be found on True Tube.

Key Stage 2

There are a wealth of videos you could set for your pupils, such as:

Black British stories from BBC Teach

A Day in the Life of a Christian Vicar from True Tube

How Islam began- in 10 minutes from True Tube

Secondary

RE:ONLINE

There are schemes of learning and ‘starter’ activities on RE:ONLINE that you can use to support home learning plans for secondary pupils. We are also aware of some teachers who are supporting other parents with home learning and they may want to share these ideas.

Here are some examples:

Key Stage Three: A Sikh Worldview  There are additional resources to support this scheme of learning.

Key Stage Four: Amazing Grace- The Story of John Newton A wide collection of support and resources to support this film.

Key Stage Five: Westminster Faith debates This is an example but there are many more films to watch with discussion questions suitable for Key Stage 4 and 5.

Subject Knowledge

The subject knowledge section of RE:ONLINE could be used by pupils to support their subject knowledge especially for revision or as a research project. You may want to set questions, or invite pupils to create their own questions and share with friends via email or social media. Here is a link to a Christian worldview example.

There are also sections on a wide range of different religious and non-religious worldviews.

Exploring Research about Religion and Worldviews

We have lots of research reports for teachers’ CPD, but much of this information is suitable for pupils as they grow in understanding. We have developed some resources based on research reports in RE:ONLINE. These can be given as home learning resources.

KS4 Who was the Good Samaritan, what was his religion and does it still exist?

KS4 How can sacred texts inspire action and what does it mean to work without reward Gandhi and the Gita

KS4 Islamic practices and morals working towards a balanced view

KS5 God can’t have qualities which are impossible to have

KS5 An investigation into the problem of evil and the free will defence

Daily Media Briefing

It is hard to use current events in remote teaching as most lessons are planned in advance. However sometimes a recent event or discussion can be a good place to start a lesson if it resonates with the big idea. You can start a session with a short news video or report, and then move onto your planned lesson. You can give pupils follow-up reading if appropriate to help them feel connected to the world.

The Religion Media Centre offers a morning news bulletin. This daily bulletin collects up-to date news stories concerning religion and worldviews. It is free to sign up for.

You can also search for ‘news by religion’ on the website.

Factsheets

The Religion Media Centre also offers a catalogue of factsheets’ covering a wide range of aspects of religion and worldviews. These factsheets can help with your own research and preparation, and some sections can be given to pupils for their reading.

True Tube

Many secondary teachers will already be familiar with True Tube. There are a wealth of high quality films that can be used with pupils.
