Podcasts! Resources for the Summer

Do you have a long drive planned over the summer or perhaps a long rest? If so a podcast could be for you.

The Missing Link: Just 5 minutes of your time

This year teachers Cerys de Vekey and Ian Harris have been working on a Farmington scholarship project to set up a podcast site for RS teachers. They have invited teachers, writers, academics and current & past Farmington scholars to contribute short 5 minutes introductory podcasts, with further reading or contact details available, to enable teachers to access free CPD in an accessible format.

Titles include James Holt on the messiness of religion, Teaching about female leadership by Ruth Marx and Andy Lewis on What is RE?

The RE Podcast: dig deeper with episodes for teachers and pupils

Many people made decisions to do new things in the pandemic. Lousia Jane Smith chose to start a podcast which has become a regular listen for many teachers and advisers for their own subject knowledge and to inspire better teaching and learning. Episodes have links to further material and reading. Louisa has had an impressive and diverse series of guests from different religion and worldview communities and fields of RE/RVE/RME across her 15 series!

Episodes I have enjoyed recently include S15: E6: The one about the Scopes Trial, S12 E2: The one about sources of authority in Islam and S8 E8: The one about Holi. My next listen is going to be S15 E10 The one about barriers to research Part 2. Whichever phase you teach in you will find something to improve your subject knowledge and teaching here.

Other podcasts are available!

If you love a podcast there are many others you might find suitable episodes on such as The Panpsycast which is a philosophy podcast suitable for teachers and A level students. Alternatively more general podcasts often have relevant episodes such as Empire, The Rest is History, Everyday Ethics, All Things Considered and Beyond Belief.

We would love to hear about your latest listen.
